RENOVATION:
When a building is renovated (remodeled) its appearance is altered. In the best case, the interior of the building is changed, but the integrity of the exterior remains intact. In this building, the 2nd Empire roofline was removed when its structure deteriorated, and the stately shape and decorative elements were lost. Still, through the process of renovation, the citizens of Macomb, Illinois retain a stately and functional historic building.
