Architects are artists who are good at solving puzzles. They draw designs for buildings that fit the needs of people called “clients”. After a client tells how the building will be used and where it will be located, the design process begins. First, the architect starts drawing sketches on paper or computer. Soon lines and shapes begin to suggest the form of a building. Next, drawings with exact measurements are placed on a computer. As architects design, they keep beauty in mind as well as safety and usefulness.

You can practice the design process by choosing the activities below. You can design a doorway for your house, sketch a building for an imaginary client or try making a plan to really change your room!
